Jim Schirmer

Attorney

Jim Schirmer is a graduate of The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and joined Surdyk, Dowd & Turner in 2021. Jim focuses his practice on defending political subdivisions and their employees.

While in law school, Jim participated in the Jerome Prince Memorial Evidence Competition, the Herbert Weschler Criminal Law Moot Court Competition, and served as Communications Editor on the Ohio State Journal of Criminal Law. Jim’s prior work experience includes the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations where he served in an oversight role investigating public and private entities for evidence of wrongdoing, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio, the Butler County Prosecutor’s Office, and a small firm in Cincinnati representing local governments and Greek Life organizations.

Prior to law school, Jim attended The Ohio State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Political Science cum laude and minoring in Economics and Philosophy. After earning his B.A., Jim enlisted in the Ohio Air National Guard, serving for six years as an all-source operations intelligence analyst. Jim also has experience working with local governments during his previous employment at the Ohio House of Representatives.
